Jenks senior tailback Trey’Vonne Barr’e, who was the Tulsa World’s state football player of the year in 2012, is committing to the University of Central Oklahoma.

Barr’e will be joined in Edmond at UCO by two senior teammates who announced their commitments on Wednesday night — offensive lineman Brandon Waggoner and cornerback Braden Calip.

“With Trey’Vonne, the back of the year in the state of Oklahoma, and two All-State players, that’s almost a steal for them,” said Jenks assistant coach Brad Calip, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. “UCO is a program going in the right direction and they’ve got a really good group of kids. I’m a proud dad.”

Barre, who is 5-9 and 174 pounds, led Class 6A in rushing with 2,237 yards and 32 touchdowns to earn World and Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State honors as he helped the Trojans win the state title. In 2011, he had 2,110 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns. Attempts to contact him on Wednesday night were unsuccessful.

Waggoner, a World and OCA All-State selection, was a starter on both sides of the line and helped pave the way for Barr’e to become Jenks’ all-time rushing leader with 4,721 yards. Waggoner picked the Bronchos over Pittsburg State and Central Arkansas.

“UCO has been interested in me the longest,” Waggoner said. “I have a good relationship with (offensive coordinator) Coach (Chris) Martin who will be my position coach. I like the facilities and the atmosphere there, and that it’s close to home. I think it’s a good fit for me.
Waggoner also is looking forward to being able to continue blocking Barr’e.

“That will make my job easier,” said Waggoner, who plans to study business management but also is considering criminal justice.
Waggoner, who is 6-1 and 275 pounds, was a three-year starter on offense and also caught two passes, including a TD in 2012.

Waggoner said he will likely be used at guard primarily but there’s a possibility he will get a chance for some playing time at fullback. On defense, he had 23 tackles and three sacks. His stock with recruiters rose when he was named the top offensive lineman at the All-Poly Camp in Salt Lake City last June.

Braden Calip, an OCA 6A All-State pick and World All-Metro second team selection, had three interceptions as a senior. The three-year starter also served as a backup for Barr’e and rushed for seven TDs.

“I believe in their coaches and I want to help them turn things around,” said Braden Calip, who plans to study criminal justice. “It’s going to be a big challenge but I believe Coach (Nick) Bobeck can do that. It’s helps a lot that I will have some teammates going there with me.”

Braden Calip selected UCO, which was 2-8 in Bobeck’s first season in 2012, over Pittsburg State, The Citadel and East Central.

Among other players who have verbally commitmented to UCO recently are World All-State tailback-cornerback Jake Gandara of Fort Gibson, and two All-Metro selections — quarterback Chas Stallard of Cleveland and offensive lineman Sam Noble of Oologah.

Verbal commitments are not binding. National Signing Day is Feb. 6.
