"American Idol" has its new judging panel in place and started production Monday in Boston.
Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez is returning to the show after a year away from the reality TV competition. Country music star Keith Urban, who served on the judges' panel last season, is also returning. Crooner/actor Harry Connick Jr. who served as a mentor last season will become a full-time judge this season.
"I have always been a huge fan of 'American Idol' and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show," Connick told hollywoodreporter.com. "And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to 'American Idol' and to help emerging performers find their way."
Connick also tweeted his enthusiasm for the gig:
Fox confirmed Randy Jackson, the only original judge from the beginning of the series will return but as a mentor this time around.
As previously announced. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are not returning to the show.
Auditions are being held in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Detroit, Omaha, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. The 13th season will debut in January 2014 with Ryan Seacrest returning as host.
