Jessica Sanchez is still making a huge impression on "American Idol."

The 16-year-old, from San Diego, Calif., performed Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" on Wednesday's celebration of all things '80s.

"You did an amazing job because that is big shoes to fill," said judge Randy Jackson after her performance. "I’m telling you I can’t believe the maturity in you."

It marked the second time she has covered the iconic singer’s songs to win kudos on Fox's reality singing competition.

In the first live finalists' show in March, she blew the judges away with her cover of Houston's "I Will Always Love You."

On Wednesday, the top eight contestants were given two chances to impress the judges.

Sanchez, who competed on "America's Got Talent" when she was 11, next teamed up with fellow contestant Joshua Ledet, a 19-year-old from Westlake La., for a rendition of "I Knew You Were Waiting on Me." It earned a standing ovation from the judges and the audience.

"That performance was so over the top that it defies judging," said judge Steven Tyler. "Only to be enjoyed. That was so fine."
Jackson called them "two of the greatest talents to ever hit this competition."

"I'm looking there and I'm like finals, maybe?" added judge Jennifer Lopez.

The results show and elimination air at 7 p.m. Thursday and the Top 7 finalists will perform April 11.

The final performances of the season will be held May 22 with the "American Idol" being named May 23. All airing on Fox, channel 23, cable 5.
