The Missouri Valley Conference is searching for a replacement for Creighton and there are many in Tulsa who would like to see Oral Roberts reconnect this city to the MVC. The University of Tulsa was a member of the league for 62 years before departing in 1996.

According to the Kansas City Star, schools other than ORU will merit a first look.

The Star reported it has learned that Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), Valparaiso, Loyola of Chicago and Illinois-Chicago are going to get visits from an MVC delegation this week.

Valpo, Loyola of Chicago and Illinois-Chicago are in the Horizon League. UMKC announced last month it was leaving the Summit League to join the WAC.

Are things so fluid that the Kangaroos would jump to the MVC before ever playing a game in the WAC? Welcome to conference stability in this millenium.

Said UMKC athletic director Tim Hall in a statement: “First and foremost, we are extremely excited about our future with the Western Athletic Conference. During this time in college athletics, conference realignment is a major topic, and every conference must continually conduct research to evaluate the situation that gives it the best chance to be successful. The Missouri Valley is an excellent and highly respected conference, but UMKC remains committed to the WAC.”

ORU, fresh off an exit from the Summit League, just completed its first basketball season in the Southland Conference. ORU, Belmont and Denver were among schools first speculated as possible replacements for Creighton when it was learned that the Bluejays were considering a move to the new Big East.
