The long-awaited reopening of Knotty Pine Barbecue kicked off at 11 a.m. Monday in Broken Arrow.
Regan and Jim Rice opened the restaurant at 1424 W. Kenosha St. between Aspen Avenue and Elm Place. For Tulsans, that’s on 71st Street between 145th and 161st east avenues.
According to the Knotty Pine Facebook page, the team smoked meats all weekend to take care of the opening crowds.
“I don’t know how many pounds, but I know our meat bill was just under $7,000,” Regan Rice said.
Rice said Knotty Pine will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
“We also will be open Thanksgiving and Christmas, so if you don’t want to cook come by and we’ll cook for you,” she said. “Those days will be voluntary for our employees, but we will be here to serve our customers.”
David Woodard, grandson of the restaurant’s founder, was on hand Monday to greet customers and oversee the operation.
“I expect he will be around for a while,” Rice said. “We have a few new faces, but most of our staff is old Knotty Pine staff. Some are really old-school.”
The Woodard family founded Knotty Pine in the early 1950s at 3301 W. Fifth St. That building was destroyed by fire in August 2010.
David Woodard said he still is working to open a second location at 6161 S. 33rd West Ave.
