Kristin Chenoweth wears her sunglasses at night. At least on "Late Night."
The Broadway star and Broken Arrow native was a guest on "Late Night With David Letterman" Thursday and showed up with sunglasses hiding her "perky eyes."
It was a case of eyelash emergency.
"Something bad has happened,” the Emmy-winning actress told Letterman when he asked her if she was "hiding out."
She wanted, she explained, "not Tammy Faye Baker" lashes but longer, fuller lashes so she opted for eyelash extensions which are applied individually.
"I don't know what that is," remarked a slightly puzzled Letterman.
"I wanted some lashes," said Chenoweth, who starred in "Wicked" on Broadway. "So I have real eyelash hair – 'not phony' – from …," she said.
"Cadavers?" the talk show host, quipped.
"Exactly," she said. "And the glue has formaldehyde in it and I’m allergic. Yes, it's dead people juice, people.
"I got them yesterday and I swelled up and was sneezing a lot. It looks like I have lips on my eyelids."
The allergy caused her eyelids to puff up and ooze, forming a hard crust around her eyes, said the actress who stars in the upcoming comedy series "GCB" coming March 4 to ABC. She said she using doctor-ordered steroid eye drops and an antihistamine to alleviate the problem.
"They just aren't perky," she said of her eyes but admitted she likes how her semi-closed eyes look on camera.
"I look slitty," she giggled.
