Laffa Medi-Eastern Restaurant & Bar, 111 N. Main St., has opened its walkup sidewalk window serving falafel and shawarma.
The dining room with full menu is expected to open soon.
According to owner Miranda Kaiser, her falafel is a traditional preparation of deep-fried balls of ground chickpeas and spices stuffed into pita bread "with lots of other yummy stuff."
Shawarma is a wheat wrap with spicy "harissa" chicken served with a choice of stuffers, including such items as curried tehina, mango chili sauce, hummus, tzadziki sauce, pickled slaw, avocado and sweet potato fries.
The dishes cost $8.99 to $9.99.
The falafel stand was open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. its first couple of days, and Kaiser said she expects it to remain open later Thursday-Sunday. It eventually will be open to 3 a.m. Thursday-Saturday.
Kaiser and husband Phil also operate Cosmo, a bistro in Brookside.
