Robin Thicke (left), gets a twerking from Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

A new verb is the only good thing coming from the stripper-inspired hot mess of a performance by Miley Cyrus at the MTV Awards Sunday night.

In a desperate move to prove she’s no Disney princess, Cyrus twerked her way past teddy bears and Robin Thicke.

Twerk isn’t new in the lexicon of young ‘uns.

It’s not in the dictionary, but who needs that to be cool.

The online Urban Dictionary states that “twurk” means:

“To move your body in a dancing way that looks like you are rubbing up against something or someone. Usually females press or rub their rear close to the males groin area. Males usually move their hips in a pressing motion. Almost like ‘grinding'."

For example: "Whoa! This girl sure knows how to twurk!" or "Ouch, she twurks to hard!"

Cyrus did indeed twerk too hard last night.

Lascivious acts are not new to music.

From the pelvis of Elvis, Jim Morrison’s over-exposure, Madonna’s bras to Lady Gaga’s meat suit, the line of appropriateness is blurry at best in music.

That’s what we expect.

Usually though, there is a show to it.

Madonna and Lady Gaga are highly choreographed.

Their antics are planned, coming with a melody and chorus line of dancers.

It’s all part of the performance, even if it’s a strange one.

Cyrus came off as that drunk girl humping her way around the bar in an effort to get attention.

She’s better than this.

Hopefully, Cyrus will overcome today's hangover and try a more musical approach.
