Tulsa City-County Library has planned several programs this week to coincide with the national observance of El día de los niños/El día de los libros, or Children's Day/Book Day, on April 30.

The day, created by author and poet Pat Mora in 1997, seeks to emphasize the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds, according to the library.

TCCL has a variety of programs planned to celebrate children and literacy during El día de los niños/El día de los libros. The events are sponsored by the Tulsa Library Trust and Hispanic Resource Center.

Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford, April 24
From 10-10:45 a.m., children ages 2-5 can listen to local storyteller Aneatra Hawkins and receive shakers from Rudisill's Kuruoshii Manga Club. Each participant will also receive a book.

Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road, April 25 & 26
From 6:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, children of all ages will use recycled material to make noisemakers with Brena from the Children's Museum.
Then, at 7 p.m. Thursday, children will join John Dellavedova to make rhythms from across the cultural spectrum with the noisemakers made during the previous evening's program.

South Broken Arrow Library, 3600 S. Chestnut, April 28
From 1-3 p.m., children of all ages can listen to mariachi music and make crafts from around the world.
