The Linnaeus Teaching Garden Program holds its orientation for its fall volunteer training class at 10 a.m. this coming Saturday in the Tulsa Garden Center auditorium, 2435 S. Peoria Ave.
Find out more about the program, its mission and its volunteer program at the event, which will include an informative multimedia presentation about the Linnaeus volunteer training experience.
The orientation is free, and a reception in the Linnaeus Teaching Garden will follow.
Garden director Barry Fugatt has said previously the success and lifeline of the garden is its volunteers. Several hundred men and women have graduated from the 12-week training program that equips volunteers to share their love and knowledge of gardening with the public.
Linnaeus training focuses on “how to” gardening techniques, and garden design, perennials, annuals, woody plants, pruning, water gardening, and lawn care are among the many topics covered during the training.
The course also provides experiential training, which is conducted in small-group settings in the teaching garden.
And the garden program isn’t short on fun. Linnaeus volunteers also enjoy various social activities throughout the year, including group travel to gardens in and out of state.
