Bill Forsyth's "Local Hero" is one of those movies that, once seen, tends to become a part of one's life.
I first saw this movie, starring Burt Lancaster and Peter Riegert, when it first came out, in 1983, at a theater in Norman, where I was attending the University of Oklahoma. I saw the movie in the company of the woman who would become my first wife.
I must hasten to add that she is also my current wife. My only wife. And I need to carry on before I get myself in even more trouble.
But it wasn't long after we left the theater that phrases from the movie started appearing in our everyday conversation,
"Strange times, Archie, strange times," being the most frequently used.
It is at once one of the funniest movies and one of the saddest.

If you have never seen "Local Hero," do yourself a favor and track it down. If you have seen it before, you're probably already thinking about where your DVD copy is.
