Yesterday, Lucasfilm announced on their official page their intention to wind down the popular animated series, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," and that they will soon begin production on a new animated series "set in a time period previously untouched in 'Star Wars' films or television programming." That unnecessarily vague statement comes with a promise of more information to come in the following months.

Also, they will put "Star Wars: Detours", Seth Green's comedy television series set between the events of "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," on indefinite hiatus.

"Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new "Star Wars" trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense," the release stated.

This makes me think that perhaps this "time period previously untouched" might overlap with that series. However, it is more likely that the new films are intended to be all serious, and they don't want a really goofy comedy fresh in people's minds when the new films are released.

Lucasfilm has already ceased production on new "Clone Wars" episodes for The Cartoon Network, but where the last episodes will air is still uncertain, though the obvious fit would be on Disney XD.

While I am certainly sad to see "The Clone Wars" go, I realize that the new acquisition by Disney will see some big changes, and it seems that the people behind this new era want to start as fresh as they can, and put as much of a unique stamp on the franchise as possible.

They also probably want to put out a whole new line of toys.
