Lyle Lovett contributed to two tribute albums last year, both are artists that he credits as influences and inspirations.

He recorded the Buddy Holly song “Well All Right” for the album “Listen to Me: Buddy Holly” to celebrate what would have been the influential rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s 75th birthday.

“Peter Asher produced the Buddy Holly album and actually sang on the track with me, so that was really quite fun. Peter’s one of the original British Invaders from the days of the Beatles with Peter and Gordon and he’s produced so many albums,” he said.

“Buddy Holly, he helped shape popular music and you can’t overstate his impact on popular music. He was part of the history of rock ‘n’ roll.”
He also recorded “Anyhow I Love You” for the Guy Clark tribute album, “This One’s for Him.”

“I know Guy personally and have gotten to watch him work up close. His writing is just stellar. Anybody that ever sits down to write a song aspires to the level of Guy Clark’s writing. He’s just a wonderful example of poetry and musicianship.”

Get in the know with Lyle Lovett’s official Facebook page. Yes, it’s really run by him, and he puts his journalism degree from Texas A&M to good use. He learned photography while working at The Batallion, the college paper.

“I enjoy doing it myself. Whatever is there does come from me. I just think it’s important to stay in touch and actually be yourself and not have anyone else talk for you.”
