Fans apparently confused Hammer, aka Stanley Burrell, with another man of the same name.
According to 
TMZ.com and United Press International , "Not only is Hammer alive but he is also starting up a new Web site called DanceJam where visitors can upload videos of themselves dancing and Hammer will critique them."
