"August: Osage County" opens Dec. 25.
No surprise here: The movie "August: Osage County" has been issued an R rating by the Motion Picture Association of America.
"Language including sexual references, and for drug material," cited the MPAA after having seen the finished film, which will make its world premiere in a couple of weeks at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film, shot in Osage County in 2012 and based on Tulsa native Tracy Letts' prize-winning play, tells the story of the Weston family, brought together at the longtime family residence north of Pawhuska when a family member goes missing.
The reunion results in many secrets being revealed, and I'll keep the particulars a secret, but many are of the R-rated variety.
Plays don't come with an MPAA rating, but if they did, "August: Osage County" would have received an R for the mature subject matter, which features a good amount of profanity, some disturbing sexuality and a bit of pot smoking and pill-popping.
So for those Oklahomans who are planning to attend when "August: Osage County" opens in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day -- and I already know several people who say this is one of those movies that will finally get them back into a theater -- be prepared for dysfunctional Okies on parade.
