Madonna and Lady Gaga both in the headlines? Quelle surprise!

Read: Sarcasm.

That the-president-is-a-"black Muslim" comment Madonna made Monday at a concert in D.C.?

That was Madonna being "ironic," said the "Express Yourself" singer in a statement explaining her recent remarks during a concert turned somewhat-political event(?) when she said it was so amazing to think that the U.S. has an African-American in the White House.

"For better or for worse, we have a black Muslim in the White House ... it means there is hope in this country," said the 54-year-old at the concert in part of a video clip that was ultimately posted on YouTube.

Needless to say, the singer caught A LOT of flack about the remarks (President Barack Obama is widely known to be a practicing Christian) and soon issued a statement through her rep saying she was being facetious.

"I was being ironic on stage. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim - though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. And what if he were?

"The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to. I don't care what religion Obama is - nor should anyone else in America," she said.

Guessing that's a good way to clean that up - creating an ironic nonfactual observation to make a point about reality. But the force with which Madonna laid it all out - referencing Lincoln ("a prophet") and MLK, she sounded incredibly emphatic about it all. http://bit.ly/ORd34s

Only Madonna.

And in other news...

In the latest hubbub about Lady Gaga's weight, the singer today posted photos of herself underwear clad on her Little Monsters website with the caption, "Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15,” asking fans to “celebrate (their) triumph over insecurities” by posting pictures as well.

In recent weeks, gossip tabloids, bloggers and the like had speculated about the songstress's weight gain over the summer. Gaga soon acknowledged she had gained 25 lbs. and wasn't apologizing for it.

"May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous," Gaga writes.
