PEOPLE reports former child star Frankie Muniz is recovering from a "mini-stroke" that put him in the hospital last Friday.

A "mini stroke," the term often used to describe a transient ischemic attack, or TIA, occurs when blood temporarily stops flowing to the brain, causing symptoms similar to those of a stroke lasting one to 24 hour hours.

According to Mayo Clinic, about 1 in 3 people who have a mini stroke eventually have a full stroke in the future.

Muniz, who turns 27 tomorrow, told his Twitter followers today the episode "was not fun at all."

Muniz played Malcolm on "Malcom in the Middle" from 2000 to 2006.
