When the curtain goes up at 8 p.m. Wednesday on "Mamma Mia!" at the Winter Garden Theater in New York City, it will be a record-setting event. It will mean that this musical created around a couple of dozen songs by the Swedish pop group ABBA will become the 13th longest running show in Broadway history.

Read the story: Mamma Mia!

It still has a way to go to beat the current champs in long runs.

on Broadway, the still-running "The Phantom of the Opera," which will pass the 9,000-performance mark some time around the middle of October. "The Lion King" and the revival of "Chicago" are still going strong, with more than 4,800 and 5,200 performances, respectively.

And the off-Broadway mystery "Perfect Crime" is still going strong, with 9,122 shows and counting.

Of course, it's doubtful that any show is likely to challenge the real champs -- the 17,162 performances of "The Fantasticks," or the more than 23,000 (and counting!) shows of Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" in London.

The current touring production of "Mamma Mia!" comes to Tulsa Sept. 15 at the Tulsa PAC.
