Mark Consuelos is joining the inmates in the asylum on season 2 of FX's "American Horror Story."
Consuelos, producer, former soap opera star and husband of talk show host Kelly Ripa, will have a recurring role in the series as a patient at the East Coast institution for the criminally insane. No word on what landed his character "Spivey" in the asylum.
He most recently guest-starred on "I Hate My Teenaged Daughter" on Fox and teams with his wife to produce CMT's new unscripted cheerleading series "Cheer."
Consuelos joins cast regulars Jessica Lange who returns to the series this time as a nun running the institution, and season one stars Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and Zachary Quinto returning as new characters. Remember the second season of the anthology series bears "absolutely no relation to the first," according to creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
Also new to the cast will be:
Lizzie Brochere as Gia, a "wild-child sexpot"; Adam Levine as half of a couple known as the Lovers; James Cromwell as Dr. Arden who works in the asylum and reports to Lange's character; Chris Zylka, role unknown; Joseph Fienne as head of the institution and love interest of Lange, and Chloe Sevigny as Shelly, Lange's character's nemesis and a nymphomaniac.
"American Horror Story" will return to FX in October.
