Eric Marshall of Marshall Brewing Company isn't one to rush the season. He is having his Oktoberfest beer release party tomorrow Sept 5th at Fassler Hall. He explains that although a lot of breweries release their Oktoberfest style beers in early August he prefers to wait so it is as fresh as it can be. Oktoberfest in Germany starts on September 21st this year. Eric studied brewing in Germany and knows how to brew the traditional marzen style beer.

"Oktoberfest tends to be one of our more popular seasonal beers. We make a traditional German Marzen Oktoberfest style with different malts and tettnanger hops. Its a very approachable beer with malty characteristics light and crisp like a lot of lagers, it packs a pretty good punch with about 6% ABV (alcohol by volume)"

"The difference in lagers and ales is the type of fermentation that occurs. Lager yeast ferments on the bottom in a much cooler environment than ales. Lagers also produce more by-products during the fermentation process so they require a longer time to age or lager. So aging a lager can take from four to six weeks, a ale is anywhere between 10 days to two and half weeks," said Marshall.

Hope you can join me at the release party tomorrow at Fassler Hall, 304 S Elgin Ave, Tulsa.
