At Circle Cinema on Friday, not only can you see the highly acclaimed teen drama "The Spectacular Now," but you can also hear Oklahoma author Tim Tharp talk about his book on which it's based.
Tharp will speak about the book and the movie and answer questions from the audience following Friday's 7:30 p.m. screening of "The Spectacular Now" at Circle Cinema, 10 S. Lewis Ave.
His book, which was a 2008 National Book Award finalist, has been turned into an intelligent teen drama with sly comedy that stars Miles Teller as hard-partying Sutter Keely and Shailene Woodley ("The Descendants" Oscar nominee, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" on TV) as Aimee, the "good girl" that Sutter may either fall for or corrupt.
"The Spectacular Now" is one of the most acclaimed movies of 2013, with a 93 percent "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 82 out of 100 on Metacritic. Look for my review in the Tulsa World on Wednesday, which is when the film opens at both Circle Cinema and AMC Southroads 20.
But remember: You can only see the film and then heard from the author, an Oklahoma native who is also a teacher in the humanties department at Rose State College in Midwest City, on Friday at Circle Cinema after the 7:30 p.m. screening. Tickets are on sale now at the box-office and online at tulsaworld.com/circle.
