Brennan Clay has been patiently waiting to significantly contribute to Oklahoma football.
Injuries slowed the running back during his first two seasons. Heading into the 2012 season, all questions were about Dominique Whaley. After the opening victory against UTEP, focus shifted toward Damien Williams.
During the past few weeks of the season, Clay has been the Sooners’ top playmaker at running back.
Think about Clay’s November. He’s made a significant impact in all four victories.
* Clay rushed for a career-high 157 yards on 24 carries in a 35-20 victory at Iowa State;
* The junior had a pair of touchdowns, including his only receiving TD this year, in a 42-34 triumph against Baylor;
* Clay’s 46-yard kickoff return set the Sooners up in prime position in the winning drive of a 50-49 comeback win at West Virginia;
* He led the team with 59 rushing yards in a 51-48 overtime victory over Oklahoma State, including a game-winning 18-yard run up the middle.
“Brennan has been great,” OU coach Bob Stoops said. “He’s always prepared and works hard. Very intelligent player, so he can go in in any situation, any circumstance and he’s ready to make a play.
“He’s made some huge ones through the back half of the season.”
