Miranda Lambert, left, and Blake Shelton arrive at the 46th Annual Country Music Awards at the Bridgestone Arena on Thursday in Nashville, Tenn. The Associated Press

Billboard online quotes Miranda Lambert, who is speaking out in defense of husband Blake Shelton's Entertainer of the Year win at last night's Country Music Association Awards show.

Some have complained that Shelton won although he released his last studio album in 2011 (it's spawned four No. 1 hits). He's also toured little due to the time he's devoted to the popular television talent show "The Voice."

Lambert said of his win: "It not only meant touring numbers or ticket sales or how much production you had, but the way that you represented country music within the year, the media you do, the work that you do and the TV shows you're on and how much you speak out about country music. When you think of it that way, Blake Shelton deserved to win that trophy tonight. He's on a national television show two nights a week representing us as a genre and I'm so proud of him."
