"The Pioneer Woman Cooks"


Ree Drummond, better known as the Pioneer Woman, will speak at 7 p.m. tonight at the Tulsa Historical Society.
Drummond chose Tulsa as the first stop for her 19-city book tour for "The Pioneer Woman Cooks."
We talked to her about her book and her own favorites.
"I love Ina Garten she's one of my favorites. Her food is just abundant and elegant," she said.
The last book she bought was fellow Oklahoman Trisha Yearwood's book "Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen."
"It's practical, good food. The kind of food I cook for my family," she said.
Drummond taught herself to cook using the cookbooks from her mother's kitchen, mainly "Joy of Cooking" and "Helen Corbitt's Cookbook."
"When I was first married, I consulted those books for the basics. I wanted to teach myself the basics. So I would learn to make a pear crisp, and then later I would add ginger or something to make it my own," she said.
More than cookbooks, other blogs are where Drummond finds herself looking for cooking inspiration these days. A few of her favorites: Simply Recipes, Smitten Kitchen and Steamy Kitchen.
"I love Simply Recipes. Her site is what my site wants to be when it grows up," she said.
Drummond doesn't see the food blogging craze going anywhere anytime soon, she said.
"I think there's room for everybody. The more the merrier," she said. "Food blogging is still exploding, partly because there are so many genres."
She knows she wouldn't have her book or her newfound fame were it not for the Internet.
"This time in history couldn't be more perfect," she said.
In addition to the signing in Tulsa on Wednesday, Drummond will make two more Oklahoma stops before heading across the country.
At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, she will be at Full Circle, 1900 NW Expressway. At 6 p.m. Saturday, you can find her on her home turf in Pawhuska at Townmaker Square, 519 Kehekah Avenue.
