NBC plans to try for a repeat of its huge success with the reality singing competition series "The Voice" by greenlighting a similar singing game show.
The network has ordered "The Winner Is," a show from the co-producers of the "The Voice."
In the new competition, singers - all ages, soloists, groups, amateurs and professionals - will compete head to head in duels which will be judged by a panel led by a celebrity judge.
After each duel round, the contestants will be able to negotiate a deal before finding out whether or not they had the winning performance.
If they feel they were beaten by their opponent, they can leave the show with a cash prize. Or, they can wait to hear the results from the judging panel. The amount of money each duel is worth increases with each round, according to deadline.com.
For the finale, eight singers will duel and then negotiate until there are two contestants remaining. Following the final performances, each will have a chance to walk away with $100,000 or wait to hear how the jury and the public voted. The ultimate winner will earn a $1 million prize.
John de Mol, co-creator of "The Voice" and creator of "Big Brother," will be the executive producer.
No air date has been announced but the show will most likely debut in midseason or next summer, possibly between the two cycles of "The Voice," reported the entertainment website.
For the first time, "The Voice" will air in the fall, competing for ratings with Simon Cowell's "The X Factor," featuring judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
