Naming a blog is like naming a kid.
So when the idea of this blog came up, I thought about the name first. They wanted me to talk about what we are doing at the Tulsa World to continue to serve readers in a digital age and how the Internet is changing journalism.
I want to share the insight I have from my two jobs -- one as the web editor of the Tulsa World and the other as a guest lecturer at
Oklahoma State University's School of Media and Strategic Communications, where I teach a class called Internet Communications.
The Tulsa World is different than most newspapers. The Lorton family, which has owned this newspaper for more than 100 years, is dedicated to great -- I didn't say good -- journalism. So what I am going to do here is tell that story. I am going to point out our great work online and give you the story behind how it happened. I also want to curate this website, so you can better know how it can help you and serve your needs.
In the classroom, I try to pass along to the next generation of communication professionals where things are going and how they can take advantage of the opportunities ahead of them.
So, what could possibly tie all of that together? My best guess is Press Forward. As a member of the working press, I can tell you I am only looking in one direction. And I like what I see.
