The elementary school chorus from PS 22 in Staten Island, N.Y., worked up their version of Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" in preparation for a visit from the Oklahoma country superstar and her concert Friday in Atlantic City.
They had no way of knowing what coincidence their song choice would prove to be two weeks later.
The uber-talented group of fifth graders prepared the song weeks before Hurricane Sandy would devastate parts of Staten Island and the rest of the New York and New Jersey coastline.
The chorus, which counts among its fans Katy Perry, Alpha, Tori Amos, Sinead O’Connor, Walk the Moon and Gym Class Heroes and appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," covered "Blown Away" at the request of former 2004 chorus soloist Allie.
It was a performance that the Checotahnative tweeted about and retweeted the video to her fans.
"So cool! Love These kiddos! Thanks @PS22chorus for making my day. You guys are so amazingly talented!" Underwood tweeted two weeks ago.
The chorus was back at work rehearsing new covers including, appropriately, "Chasing the Sun” by The Wanted, according to its blog at
