A little while back I wrote about Karen Camp at Ella's Deli making New York-style egg cream drinks, noting "minus real eggs."
Sharp-eyed reader Renee Kaplan rightly pointed out a New York-style egg cream "would never contain eggs or cream," and that a proper egg cream would contain chocolate syrup ("preferably Fox's U-Bet syrup from Brooklyn"), milk and seltzer.
I'm sure Karen Camp puts the egg disclaimer on the menu so as not to scare off customers who fear raw eggs and are unfamiliar with the drink. Still, I wish I had clarified that in the story.
Now I'm inspired to go to the Internet and find out if Fox's U-Bet is available online anywhere.
