Natura Pet Products announced Tuesday a massive recall of all its pet food after one of its products tested positive for Salmonella.
The recall includes all Innova, California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma branded dry pet food and biscuit and bar treats with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.
The single positive Salmonella test was on a product made April 3, said Natura in a
statement to its customers.
"Normally, this would have resulted in retrieval of product manufactured over just a few days," said the pet food maker. "However, we are taking the additional precautionary measure to recall all products in the marketplace."
Natura said the affected products were sold in bags through veterinary clinics, select pet specialty retailers, and online in the United States and Canada. The voluntary recall does not include wet food.
Those who own any of the recalled food are advised to throw it away. Just make sure to clip the UPC label and the lot code and expiration date from the bag before doing so. These will be needed when requesting a refund or replacement.
Visit Natura's
website for information on how to locate the date on your product and obtain a product replacement or refund.
In its press release, Natura said it hasn't received any reports of pets or people getting sick due to the products.
Still, if your animal is showing any signs of stomach trouble, seek treatment for you pet immediately.
