How could our drought situation be worse? We could be Arkansas. Map provided by the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Tulsa is so hot that we are setting records for highest low temperature on record.
Tulsa is so hot that we are setting records for highest high temperatures.
Tulsa is so hot that we are setting records for both highest high and highest low temperatures in the same day.
Such was the case Tuesday, when Tulsa's high temperature skyrocketed to 112 degrees, and the low only went down to 88 degrees for the second consecutive day. Thus, we have two new weather records to report today, not just one:
Old record: 108 degrees (set in 1980)
New record: 110 degrees (highest high for July 31)Old record: 82 degrees (set in 2011)
New record: 88 degrees (highest low for July 31)No doubt you are wondering if Tulsa's rainfall and temperatures set any records for all of July. No.
July 2012: 88.9 (average temperature in degrees Fahrenheit)
July 1980: 91.7 (all-time hottest July in Tulsa's recorded history)July 2012: 1.38 (monthly rainfall in inches)
July 1935: Trace amounts of rain (all-time lowest July rainfall in Tulsa's recorded history)Rainfall records go back to 1888. Temperature records date back to 1905.
We only had 18 days reach the 100s in July, dwarfed by last year's 26 in July, but even 2011 didn't set that record. 1934 had the most 100-degrees days in July, with 27. This is also the all-time record for any month in Tulsa's recorded history.
I wrote more about July 1980 last year, including the front page tributing the hottest July in Tulsa history. You can view that entry
here.Please check
Jerry's entry yesterday and
my entry Monday for the other records we've set this week. And for other records set in 2012, please check the entry
here. We'll be back all week trying to keep up with the broken records!
