Jennifer and Aaron Base have opened a new winery, Base Vines and Cattle, near Geary.
The owners relocated and renovated a one-room schoolhouse, believed to have been built in 1928, to serve as tasting room that offers a picturesque view of syrah grapevines.
The schoolhouse tasting room, which has restrooms, two decks, a patio and kitchenette, is available to rent for special events.
The Bases produce three wines:
Signature Red -- A syrah made exclusively from one acre on the winery property. It has a peppery flavor that is mellowed by vanilla accents. (currently sold out)
Porch Light Chardonnay -- It has citrus note on the nose with a buttery smooth flavor up front and an acidic kick at the end. An easy wine to enjoy.
Coil Syrah -- A syrah made off of the same one-acre plot of land on the winery property as the Signature Red. It is described as a "zippy young wine" with hints of vanilla and berries.
Base Vines and Cattle is located one mile north of Geary, 3 1/2 miles west, and 3/4 mile south off American Horse Road. The tasting room is open 5-8 p.m. Fridays or by appointment. For more information, call 405-884-1066.
Geary is just north of Interstate 40 between El Reno and Weatherford.
