The husband-wife team of Lynn Hofacket and Casidy Ward, whose Hidden Ridge Vineyard occupies one of the most unique growing areas in California, will be returning to their home state for this weekend's Philbrook Wine Experience.

They developed and planted 55 acres of remote land on the steep slopes of Spring Mountain in the Mayacamas mountain range in Sonoma County with cabernet sauvignon in the early 1990s. They began selling fruit in 2000 and soon were making their own wines.

Their small-production cabs range from $45 to $200 a bottle and have drawn acclaim in the wine industry. Their 2007 55% Slope cabernet sauvignon received 94 points from Wine Enthusiast and their 2006 #1 cab received 92 points from Wine Spectator.

The Hidden Ridge property can be reached only by heavy-duty four-wheel drive vehicles, by foot or by helicopters. Hofacket designed a tractor he modified on his own to develop the steep terraces.

Hofacket is from Chattanooga, near Lawton, and grew up on a wheat farm and cattle ranch. Ward is from Enid, where her parents were entrepreneurs in the natural gas industry.

Ward emailed recently to encourage participants in the Philbrook Wine Experience to drop by the Hidden Ridge tasting station and visit for a while.

A limited number of tickets still are available for the Fleming's Grand Wine Tasting 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday in the big tent on the Philbrook Museum of Art lawn, 2727 S. Rockford Road.

Cost is $125 Philbrook members, $150 nonmembers. For tickets, call Jennifer at 918-748-5361.
