Oklahoma State could break another record in season-ticket football sales as the Sept. 1 home opener approaches.

Sales and marketing director Adam Barnes said Thursday nearly 35,700 public (non-student) season tickets have been sold, 2,200 ahead of where sales were at this point a year ago and fewer than 1,000 from a school record.

Last year, more than 12,000 student tickets were sold, and a record number are expected after classes resume in two weeks, Barnes said. That would put OSU near the record of 48,700 total tickets set last season, but the ticket office is hoping to reach the goal of 50,000.

In 2011, sales were boosted by high expectations as well as Bedlam being the premium game for which no individual tickets were available. This year, the Sept. 29 matchup with Texas is the premium game.

Season tickets for the seven games at Boone Pickens Stadium start at $400. For more information, call 877-255-4678 or click here.

Individual tickets went on sale Wednesday for the other home games. The nonconference ones (Savannah State, Louisiana-Lafayette) start at $70, while the Big 12 games (Iowa State, TCU, West Virginia, Texas Tech) start at $90. Homecoming has been set for Oct. 20 against Iowa State.

The Oklahoma State athletic department is mourning the loss of ticket manager Tom Johnson, who died Monday at age 58. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday afternoon in Stillwater.

Since joining the ticket office in 1998, Johnson helped OSU football set many season-ticket and attendance records. He had been hospitalized after an apparent brain aneurysm and died at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

A native of Woodward, Johnson leaves behind a wife and five children.
