Lon Kruger and Steve Fisher coach against each other in Friday's NCAA first round in Philadelphia. You get the feeling they'd rather sit across a table from each other and chat for two hours.
The built up that kind of mutual admiration during their seven years coaching in the Mountain West Conference.
Here's Fisher to the San Diego Union-Tribune: "Everybody always says they're friends, but Lon and I really are friends. Our wives are friends. We enjoy each other's company. When we go on the Nike (coaching) trip, we find ways to get together, to have lunch or dinner together with our wives.
"You'd rather not play someone you have an affinity for. I'd like to have Lon Kruger go deep in the tournament. But one of us is going home after the first game."

"But he got it going, and it's a little better every year. It's a great homecourt advantage for them. It's as attractive as any place on the West Coast. He lines up and beats Pac-12 schools every year.
"Yeah, he's done a phenomenal job."
