The idea is a valid one - our mobile browsers - even the ones on the latest and greatest phones and tablets - are still based on old technology and old ways of thinking. No matter the platform, they're pretty similar across the board: buttons, address bar, tabbed navigation, bookmarks, etc.

Opera is trying to change that. Huib Kleinhout, head of the Coast team at Opera, saw a chance to re-imagine this steady concept into something else. "I knew we could do better," he said. "A lot better. For me, that meant rethinking what a browser should be. We saw a great opportunity to build something from scratch. Made simple and elegant. The result is a completely new browser, designed for your iPad."

To explain, Coast "appifies" websites for a gesture-friendly navigation experience. As long as your website is already mobile-friendly, the Coast browser will take advantage and give the website a more iPad-native feel. Back buttons and tabs get replaced with finger swipes and icon-dragging.

Looking at the demo video, the interface certainly seems smoother, but also gives you almost an Inception-esque iPad-within-an-iPad experience as well. Still, Opera drives the point home pretty well: it's the browser that should've come with your iPad. According to the App reviews, looks like others agree.

Check out the video below, and get the iPad App for free on iTunes. Learn more about the app by visiting coastbyopera.com
