It's always nice when science backs up something we suspected all along. In this case, it is the news that grapes are superior in important ways over other plants and more complex than humans.
A team of French and Italian researchers recently mapped the genome of the pinot noir grape, one used to make some champagnes and many of the world's best red wines.
The team found that the pinot noir grape has about 30,000 genes in its DNA, compared to 20,000 to 25,000 in humans. It also noted that while most plants have about 50 "flavor" genes, the pinot noir grape has about 100 of those babies, working hard to make you happy.
