The Big 12 got an advocate for expansion in Wednesday’s Baton Rouge Advocate.

Scott Rabalais, a sports writer for The Advocate, wrote a story (Read the full story here) with five reasons why LSU should move to the Big 12 Conference.

The Big 12 has repeatedly said it is not interested in expansion unless the additions bring something to the league.

LSU brings more than enough. Pair the Tigers with Arkansas or Florida State to get the league to 12 members and let’s go.

Rabalais’ five reasons to move include: unfair football scheduling by the SEC, permanent opponent scheduling by the SEC, Alabama’s long shadow (sound familiar to Texas in the Big 12?), timing is everything (realignment is all the rage) and geography is overrated (see West Virginia).

Before Arkansas joined the SEC, LSU was long the westernmost member in that league. If the Tigers were in the Big 12, they would be the southernmost member. Big deal. Baton Rouge isn’t nearly as far as Morgantown. At least Baton Rouge is in the same time zone.

LSU, along with Arkansas, are exactly the the kind of schools the Big 12 should be courting. Both make far more sense geographically than any other possibilities now being rumored (Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami).

The Big 12 may have no shot at LSU or Arkansas but that doesn’t mean someone shouldn’t at least give them a call.
