Bob Stoops met with the media to review Saturday's win over Louisiana-Monroe and preview next week's game against West Virginia ...
*** Bob Stoops said the offense “is a little bit of a different style … but equally effective when you can win 34-0.”
*** Stoops on the defense: “Any time you can hold someone to zero points, you are doing something right.”
*** Brennan Clay said the Sooners started working on the zone read last spring. Stoops said it wasn’t an easy switch.
“It is a time investment,” Stoops said. “It’s a big-time investment. You don’t just run option. It has to be drilled and drilled.”
*** Stoops said he didn’t notice the extra Big 12 official on the field during Saturday’s win over ULM. A reason why? The eighth official experiment only applies to conference games this season. It will debut for the first time against West Virginia on Saturday.
*** Cornerback Cortez Johnson and defensive lineman Chuka Ndulue have served a one-game suspension and will return to action this weekend, but Stoops said they will have to earn their way back on the field.
*** Cornerback Zack Sanchez earned praise from Stoops, who added that Johnson will have to beat out Sanchez for the starter’s role.
*** Stoops said Aaron Colvin is on par with “any of the best guys we’ve had in the secondary.”
*** Brennan Clay has a goal of being a 1,000-yard rusher this season, along with running back Damien Williams. Clay said he wants to be like Chris Brown/DeMarco Murray in 2008, when both toppled that mark.
