For the ninth consecutive year, March Madness continues on without the University of Tulsa.

The voices of Golden Hurricane fans grew louder with each passing year that the team didn’t make the NCAA Tournament.

Can you imagine telling a Tulsa fan in 2003 – the last time that the team played in the event – that it would be at least a decade before TU would return to the tournament? Leading up to 2003, the Hurricane played in eight of 10 NCAA Tournaments.

Perhaps the most staggering fact of all: Of the 65 teams that played in the 2003 NCAA Tournament, 57 have made return appearances. Tulsa is among eight programs (and joins Auburn as the only “big” schools) that haven’t been back.

TU fans are likely tired of watching the most exciting weeks of college basketball without representation. And it’s just another reason why the next coach will be a very important hire for Tulsa’s athletic administration.
