Rohrk Cutchlow, Tulsa’s strength and conditioning coach last season, may be headed to Memphis to join Justin Fuente’s staff, according to a report by footballscoop.com early on Tuesday morning.

If true, Cutchlow only spent 15 months at Tulsa. He came to the Golden Hurricane program from Illinois State to join Bill Blankenship’s inaugural staff.

Cutchlow has a coaching relationship with Fuente. Both were at Illinois State at the same time, ironically, on current TU offensive line coach Denver Johnson’s staff. Cutchlow also is a 1999 graduate of Memphis, where he played baseball.

The timing couldn’t be worse if Cutchlow leaves. The strength and conditioning coach is the key point of contact with the football team during the off-season since coaches cannot spend any time with players.

Fuente, who was named the Tigers’ head coach on Dec. 8, immediately lured running backs coach Holman Wiggins off the Tulsa staff. At the time, I asked Blankenship if Cutchlow would be a candidate to leave also, but the TU coach seemed adamant in saying that he didn’t expect Fuente – his former quarterback at Union High School – to raid the Hurricane staff a second time.

What would be next for Tulsa? Former quarterback G.J. Kinne immediately threw out Russ Riederer’s name. He is the father of 2012 signee Rob Riederer, an incoming linebacker. Russ Riederer spent 13 years on the Chicago Bears staff as a strength and conditioning coach. It is an intriguing name, but there are probably a handful of candidates to go through before making any final decision.
