"Saturday Night Live" paid tribute to "The Hunger Games" on Saturday with Sofia Vergara playing a field reporter who was just a little too excited about her assignment.

The "Modern Family" star portrayed a bewigged character who suggested they should be called the "'Funger Games' because everyone is having so much fun." Also in the comedy sketch, she also parlayed a gift from a "sponsor" into perfect product placement for "Uncrustables from the good people of Smuckers."

In the film, the games are a televised event in which teenagers in a post-apocalyptic nation must fight to the death to win fame, fortune and food for themselves and their district. It is based on the first book of a trilogy by author Suzanne Collins.

"The Hunger Games," which debuted 18 days ago ago, surpassed $460 million Sunday in global box office, according to deadline.com.

Vergara was the host of Saturday's show with musical guest One Direction.

“Saturday Night Live” airs at 10:29 p.m. Saturdays on NBC, channel 2, cable 9.
