Sam and Ella’s Chicken Palace, a popular Tahlequah restaurant since 1999, plans to open a Tulsa location. The target opening date is next Thursday.
The Tulsa store will be located 4932 E. 91st St., on the southeast corner of 91st Street and Yale Avenue next to Ri Le Vietnamese restaurant.
The restaurant will be carryout only and will serve the same menu as the Tahlequah store, according to co-owner Tommy Mullen.
Sam and Ella's Chicken Palace specializes in pizzas and sub sandwiches. The chicken in its name refers to the decor, not the food.
"I was working at a brewery in Colorado, and my brother talked me into coming home and opening the Tulsa store," Mullen said. "We have been looking at Tulsa for a while. So many Tulsa people went to school at Northeastern State University and wanted a Sam and Ella's here."
Mullen said he expects the restaurant to be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Sam and Ella's also has a location in Pryor.
"We are in the process of converting that restaurant from carryout only to sit-down," Mullen said.
