Are you ready for the smartwatch revolution? No? Well, it's coming anyway, because all the tech companies have decided it's The Next Big Thing. Time to throw those old wristwatches in the garbage! ...wait, smartphones have pretty much replaced wristwatches. Time to throw those old smartphones in the garbage!

At any rate, the first major company to announce a non-rumor smartwatch product is, naturally, Samsung, according to the Korea Times. Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said the company will unveil the Galaxy Gear on September 4, alongside a new Galaxy Note tablet.

Young-hee also set slip an important hint about the product -- it'll have a "non-flexible screen." Wait, did I say "important?" I meant the other thing.

Even though I'm skeptical that smartwatches will prove necessary and aren't pointless, desperate attempts to reignite excitement now that the world has gotten used to smartphones and tablets, I promise I'll keep a close eye on them and hope I'm proven wrong.
