Gere stars in "Arbitrage."
If you're still making plans for this weekend, consider watching "Arbitrage," which opened today at Circle Cinema, 10 S. Lewis Ave.
The movie stars Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Nate Parker and Brit Marling. And they are all fantastic.
Gere is in the role of Robert Miller, a hedge fund magnate whose greed led him to lose hundreds of millions. To save himself and sell the company before his troubles become known, he resorts to fraud.
In the midst of trying to close the deal of his life, Gere's character is also trying to keep his mistress happy. He decides to take her on a trip, but they get in an accident and the the mistress dies.
Gere abandons the scene of the accident, and the rest of the film revolves around a detective trying to pin him to the crime.
Greed, police corruption, loyalty and racial discrimination are among the elements incorporated into the multi-layered film.
Although there's a good amount of business talk in the movie (I'm pretty sure some of it went over my head), it never gets annoyingly complex, and even the least business-savvy among us will glean enough to stay on top of the story.
"Arbitrage" will be at the Circle all week, but this weekend's showtimes are 3:20 and 7:30 p.m. today; 1:10, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m., 3:20 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
