The 3-D movie arms race has spread to Jenks and far south Tulsa: RiverWalk Movies and Starworld 20 have both completed installation of systems, and starting Friday both will be showing “Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience.”
The box-office for 3-D movies in recent months has been interesting to watch. Teens drive the market, and if the movie is being screened in both 3-D and 2-D theaters, they are choosing to spend the additional $2 on average to wear funny glasses.
That means filled 3-D theaters, while the 2-D screens with the same film are rather lonely places.
Example: Despite being screened in more 2-D theaters, “My Bloody Valentine 3-D” did almost 75 percent of its business in 3-D theaters, reports show.
The Jonas Brothers movie, on the other hand, is only being released in 3-D, meaning you can see it only at AMC Southroads 20, Cinemark Tulsa and now, at the RiverWalk in Jenks and at Starworld 20.
