"The Test" is on display at TASM through April 14.
This week is your last chance to see the Tulsa Air and Space Museum's Tuskegee Airmen exhibit.
The exhibit, named "The Test," is on display through April 14. It tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the black men who fought to be allowed to become pilots for the military.
The exhibit touches on the history of segregation in the U.S. military, with panels outlining the progression of the expanding roles for black military members, ending with President Harry Truman signing Executive Order 9981 in 1948 abolishing segregation in the armed forces.
Nine of the men known as the Tuskegee Airmen were from Oklahoma, and four of those were from Tulsa.
Along with a narrative of historical facts surrounding the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the exhibit - created by national photographer Jerry Taliaferro - includes photographs and models of fighter planes flown by the men. Museum visitors can also watch parts of a 2004 documentary about the Tuskegee Airmen called "Silver Wings & Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly," which is repeatedly played as part of the exhibit.
The museum is located at 3624 N. 74th East Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors, college students and active duty members of the military; $7 for children ages 4-12; and free for children 3 and younger.
