AnnaSophia Robb is set to play Carrie Bradshaw in "The Carrie Diaries." (Photo from IMDB)
No more complaining about Sarah Jessica Parker. There's a new Carrie Bradshaw in town.
According to the
Hollywood Reporter, the CW network has just cast young starlet AnnaSophia Robb as the young Carrie Bradshaw in the new series,
The Carrie Diaries.
The prequel to
Sex and the City stems from original SATC creator, Candace Bushnell (remember her?). She penned the novel last year, and it's been gathering buzz since -- not so much for its originality, but for the potential Bradshaw casting.
According to THR, the rights to the book were snapped up by CW, a cousin network to SATC's home, HBO. I'm assuming that they're going for the same fashion-obsessed female audience as its popular show,
Gossip Girl.
I don't know how much fashion will be in this 1980's-based series, well, unless you count acid-washed jean jackets.
Robb is best known for 2007's
Bridge to Terabithia, and Tim Burton's 2005 remake of
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
What do you think of the casting? Will you watch
The Carrie Diaries, or is
Sex and the City done already?
