Smooch Piggy and her piggy tricks may have impressed the judges of "America's Got Talent" on Monday but it was singer Mary Joyner that captured their hearts.
Joyner, the daughter of Olympic champions Al Joyner and the late Florence "Flo-Jo" Griffith-Joyner, sang a chill-inducing rendition of the Sara Bareilles song "Gravity."
Her performance brought a smile to the face of Howard Stern and tears to her father’s eyes backstage.
The young woman told the judges she started singing seriously in middle school and high school and then "I just fell in love with music."
"Can I just say something? I think we just fell in love with you," jduge Howie Mandel told her.
Judge Howard Stern was sold on the performer in the beginning notes of her performance, he said.
"I've sat at home and watched this season and some people give me goose bumps and some don't. You had me in 30 seconds,” he said. "I thought you did a tremendous job."
A sentiment echoed by fellow judge Sharon Osbourne.
"You are really genuine when you perform and you moved everyone in this theater," said judge Sharon Osbourne.
And what did the moment mean to the young singer?
"The thing is I feel my mom smiling down on me and I feel the connection to the song and I feel like this is my time to shine and hopefully I did for you guys," the 21-year-old told the judges.
It was a unanimous vote to move her on to the next round of competition in Las Vegas. "AGT" boot camp begins June 25 with talented performers from around the country competing for a $1 million prize.
"America's Got Talent" airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and 8 p.m. Tuesdays.
