Oklahoma players spent some time this week talking about how well Notre Dame played in winning on Owen Field Saturday night. Figured that would be the case.
But you know who else has come up? The other team to have won in Norman.
The Kansas State Wildcats.
The Sooners need K-State to lose twice to have any shot at a Big 12 championship. They realize that, and said as much this week.
They also said how much respect they had for the Wildcats, for both what they did to beat OU a month ago and what they have done since.
"They've had an unbelievable year. Credit Bill Snyder for getting those guys ready to play," defensive end David King said. "They've been running through everybody. It's fun to watch. You're sitting in the hotel and you're like, 'Hey, that's the play they got me with, probably for a touchdown.'"
"They're playing great football right now. We all know that," running back Brennan Clay said. "Their offense is executing. Their defense is shutting people down."
The Sooners aren't completely resigned to their best-they-can-do-is-second fate. But there are traces.
"Led by Colin Klein, they are a really fundamentally sound and physical football team," center Gabe Ikard said. "They're playing the same way every Saturday and their consistency is impressive."
"I've always had respect for K-State and the way they do things," linebacker Tom Wort said. "Of course I hope they lose. But I always respect them."
