Cornerback Aaron Colvin returned for his senior year at Oklahoma to win some games, win some awards and put himself in prime ...
Keeping with the Big 12 vs. SEC theme of the week, I found something pretty cool from a year ago, when the two conferences ...
We're still more than a year and a half from the first College Football Playoff, and the first CFP selection committee, and ...
The fact that West Virginia hasn't won in over a month tells you things aren't going too great for Dana Holgorsen as he prepares for Oklahoma. His press conference Tuesday underscored that.
Holgorsen said: "We encourage everyone to come support the team… I understand the frustrations that have existed."
Maybe he encourages fans to come out every week. Or maybe it's that the Mountaineers were booed some during their last home game two weeks ago, an overtime loss to TCU.
The second question was whether Holgorsen had ever experienced a four-game losing streak. "No, I haven't," he answered. "It is not a lot of fun for anybody."
The next questions referenced something Holgorsen said after West Virginia's loss at Oklahoma State last week, specifically about his special teams. Here's how the transcription on WVU’s website of the coach's response began:
"On how to coach basic, simple, fundamental stuff and fix the junior high mistakes."
Wow.
Typically, a university goes to the trouble of dressing up the transcription a little, takes the glass-half-full approach. Not here.
By the way, Holgorsen's response was: "What is sad about the special teams' situation is that obviously it was embarrassing."
"Sad," "embarrassing," "junior high mistakes." Your Mountaineer special teams, ladies and gentlemen.
Someone asked Holgorsen about his defense. "We are having a hard time getting through to our guys, which is coaching, that we have to play all the time."
Someone asked about the offense. Or the running game anyway. "We have no push. We had none. We were garbage on third and short, fourth and short, when we handed the ball off."
Holgorsen went on to talk about three of his lesser-known players and how upset they were after the OSU loss. He said: "We need more of that to exist… I can't manufacture new people. It is what we've got."
The last question was about going out and finding help at the JUCO level. It sounds like the Mountaineers need a lot of help. Judging from Holgorsen's press conference Tuesday, it sounds like his program is in utter distress.
